Towed Vehicles

Please Read Carefully

The Mechanicsburg Police Department takes road safety extremely seriously and as such our policy requires our road patrol to tow vehicles when certain violations occur.

The Tow Companies that serve Mechanicsburg Police Department will NOT release any vehicle towed by Mechanicsburg Police Department without a release form provided to the owner of the vehicle.

So, your vehicle has been towed—now what?

You MUST come to the Mechanicsburg Police Department in person to obtain a release form, and the owner must provide the following:

  • A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE or, as an alternative, be accompanied by a SUBSTITUTE DRIVER WITH A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE;
  • VALID PROOF OF INSURANCE on the vehicle;
  • VALID REGISTRATION on the vehicle; and
  • Pay a $25 non-refundable administrative fee.

If the owner of the vehicle cannot provide any of the above requirements, the vehicle may only be released, by personal tow or a tow company, after payment of the administrative fee is received by Mechanicsburg Police Department.
